Gastric sleeve surgery, or stomach reduction surgery, is a type of bariatric surgery used to treat people with obesity and overweight. In gastric sleeve surgery, 70 to 80 percent of the stomach is removed during surgery, leaving a banana-shaped piece of the stomach.
